Education, Certifications & Awards

Dworkin has a B.S. degree in Health and Physical Education. He is authorized as a Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, Water Rescue and Ice Rescue Instructor, and is currently and has been certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Firefighter for the past 35 years. Dworkin has worked as a volunteer and career Firefighter/EMT within the same time frame, as well as for the American Red Cross for 14 years as a Health and Safety Services Professional.

Summary of Experience

Dworkin has over 40 years of professional experience in the fields of Aquatics, Public Safety and Rescue. He is a noted author and educator and serves as a professional Aquatics Safety and Water Rescue Consultant for Lifesaving Resources, LLC in Kennebunkport, Maine.  Dworkin develops Aquatics Safety, Water Rescue, Ice Rescue, and Lifeguard training curriculums, and conducts training throughout the United States, as well as Internationally, for (A) the Public Safety, EMS, and Rescue Sector; (B) the Lifeguard, Aquatics Safety and Recreation Sector; and (C) the General Public.

His training programs and publications focus on the prevention, recognition, and management of drowning and aquatic injuries. Dworkin also maintains an extensive 2,500+ page web site at that currently attracts more than 4,000 visitors per month from throughout the world.  Dworkin has been a Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician for over 40 years, and is currently a Firefighter/EMT for the Kennebunkport Fire Department.  

He has written and published over 40 articles and has appeared as a subject matter expert on numerous national media broadcasts, including CNN, MSNBC News, ABC's Good Morning America, NBC's Today Show, CBS' Early Show, The Weather Channel, and The Discovery Channel.  He serves on the Board of Directors for the National Drowning Prevention Alliance, and sits on Advisory Committees for the International Swimming Hall of Fame, and the American Red Cross Lifeguard Curriculum Development Team.  He is also a member of the National Water Safety Congress and the United States Lifesaving Association.
